Jewellery Care
FOR YOUR GOLD FILLED PIECES
Gold filled jewellery is tarnish resistant and water resistant. This is thanks to the gold filled production process that provides a piece with a higher volume and a thicker layering of solid gold than any other plating process.
Having said that, the care you provide for your gold filled jewellery is vital in ensuring they last for many years. Gold filled jewellery is more durable if compared to jewellery with other types of plating processes such as gold plated or gold vermeil jewellery. However, it can tarnish at varying rates depending on how well it is cared for. If not correctly cared for, gold filled pieces can discolour over time. For example, if worn in compromising conditions or handled without care, gold filled jewellery’s lifespan can decrease. In some cases, even the levels of acidity of the owner’s skin can affect their jewellery's susceptibility to such problems.
To keep your gold filled pieces in the BEST possible condition:
- It is best practice to remove your jewellery when sleeping, exercising, swimming and before showering to avoid any unnecessary damage of your piece, such as scratching.
- When getting dressed, put your jewellery on last. Chemicals present in perfumes, lotions can affect your jewellery.
- We recommend storing each jewellery piece individually, in an air tight storage container to avoid them being damaged or entangled. The use of anti-tarnish strips also helps to create the best possible conditions.
- If your jewellery piece includes stones and freshwater pearls, avoiding water is recommended to preserve them.
Pearls may come from the sea however once they are out of their shell, they are delicate. Wetting them can cause them to erode.
Also, some gemstones are considered to be more delicate than others. Why so? This is because natural stones all vary in their hardness, meaning that some are more fragile than others. To measure this, each type of natural stone is subject to the Mohs Harness Scale. The Mohs Harness Scale measures a mineral's resistance to scratching. The higher the number on the Mohs scale, the harder the substance. Diamonds, the hardest known material, come in at a 10 on the scale. A human fingernail is a 2.5, while talc—the softest mineral—sits at the bottom with a Mohs hardness of 1. So if your jewellery pieces contain stones, it is best practice to keep them away from the water, avoid sun lotion, other creams and soaps, ,or situations in which they could be damaged.

FOR YOUR STERLING SILVER PIECES
Sterling silver pieces oxidise overtime. Interestingly, to prevent this, we recommend regularly wearing your sterling silver piece as the natural oils in your skin help stop the process of tarnishing. However, it is still recommended that you avoid bringing your sterling silver piece into contact with water or chemicals.
To restore the shine in your sterling silver jewellery, we recommend polishing it with a silver polishing cloth.
When you aren’t wearing your sterling silver pieces, we recommend storing them in air tight container and you can use a anti tarnish strip too.
Do not rub silver with anything besides a polishing cloth to avoid scratching it.
Store your pieces individually so they don't rub together causing scratching.
JEWELLERY STORAGE
Your order will be delivered to you in our packaging boxes. Please note that these boxes are uniquely designed for packaging purposes. They are produced using materials that can cause the packaged jewellery to tarnish if left over time.
This is why we recommend to remove your jewellery pieces from their packaging box upon receiving them, and either place them in the fabric pouch you receive with your order or in your own jewellery container. To best ensure that your jewellery remains in brand new condition, free from tarnishing, scratching, and entanglement, we recommend individually storing your jewellery pieces in an air tight container.
